INTRODUCTION

After a year and a half of Jeff Kennett's autocratic reign in Victoria, Australia (1992-1999), I could no longer sit idly by. A house husband, social hermit and writer of unpublishable novels, I arose from my dream world and started The "Resign, Jeff" Review, mailing it to various people in the media.

Owing to a sensible paranoia, I sent it clandestine, without a return address. I have no idea what any of the recipients thought, or if they ever bothered to read it. The point was: I was letting off some steam.

Working in a vacuum soon sapped my energy and the RJR lasted only 8 issues, from March to June 1994. The first issue is kind of lame, but things pick up with #2.

I returned a couple of years later, to put out "The Subs 'n' Duds Report," also anonymous, from April to October 1996.

It wasn't until "Scum at the Top" (February 1999-?) that I caved in and came up with a PO Box address. The response was not overwhelming, but a few courageous media icons gave positive feedback.

SCATT went online in August 1999, and perhaps that was my undoing. Few of the above courageous media icons were Net savvy. And I could never come up with the cash or marketing interest to spread the word.

It's been a great experience, and who knows where I'll go from here. In the meantime, enjoy a little recent history from the perspective of an outraged idealist in the suburbs.

Cheers, HH
