Howard Must Go

Let those who voted for Howard go first
Harold Hark
20 September 2002

When the Weasel-in-chief sets up his command post in the comfort of Kirribilli House, his sickly little chest will heave with patriotic pride as Australians prepare to sacrifice their sons and daughters for Uncle Sam.

Of course that is the view of those of us who not only oppose the war, but find it ludicrous.

For the slavering warmongers, however, these sacrificial children will be doing their duty to preserve an Illiberal Party tradition that began with Vietnam. A tradition of volunteering Australia's youth for wanton slaughter in the name of preserving its own power while appeasing US imperialism.

Perhaps though, as the man of principle the little general keeps telling us he is, his untarnished integrity will require that he first send into battle the sons and daughters of those who voted for him. A champion of the fair go (on paper), Howard surely will not fail to implement this just policy.

But even before sending these youngsters off to die for no good reason, it must surely come to pass that he will proudly announce the recruitment of his own and his parliamentary colleagues' children, as well as the slaughter-age offspring of his backers in the media.

They can stand shoulder to shoulder at the dock or airport, waving goodbye to their dispensable littlies and grand-littlies with those tiny US flags their idols in Washington are so fond of earnestly wiggling at the drop of a crocodile tear. (When not using them to wipe the drool of anticipation from their multiple double chins, that is.)

As for the rest of us, Commander Johnny can get a hundred ASIO bills passed and see to the construction of more and more concentration camps, but the fact remains: OUR CHILDREN WILL NOT GO.
