Alston-Goebbels To Get Flinty With ABC Poor Catherine McGrath. In the line of duty the PM reporter has to talk to some pretty unsavoury characters, but her conversation yesterday with Richard Alston, the Communications-by-Hieroglyph Minister, should have earned her hazard pay. To her credit she mostly suppressed the urge to laugh in his face (over the telephone), though a few amazed titters escaped anyway. Despite his protestations to the contrary and McGrath's oblique insinuations, Alston simply wants the national broadcaster to tow the government line. He has no idea how obvious this is, but being a dolt, he wouldn't. His submission to the ABC alleging 68 incidents of anti-American bias during the Iraqi invasion, was returned to him with only two grievances given any credit. And they were accompanied by dismissive comment that should have made him blush. In fact, the report cuts him to shreds. Because of this he is threatening to take the matter to the Australian Broadcasting Authority. Won't that be a hoot! Who chairs the ABA but David Flint, the only ponce who can out-ponce Alexander Downer. Flint, you will remember absolutely hates the ABC, and more to the point, chaired the Cash for Comments inquiry against John Laws while simultaneously appearing on Laws' radio program. He was unaware of the conflict of interest. He'd be Alston's man, all right. You can read the PM transcript here, but you should really listen to the audio to hear this pseudo-human shovelling himself into an ever deeper hole (link at the top of the transcript). Links: |
